Susan Snow-Cotter
1961-2006 We at MOP express our deep regrets
at the recent passing of Susan Snow-Cotter. Susan served as the
Director of the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management
and was an indispensable member of MOP’s Steering Committee,
Strategic Planning Group and Science/Technical Group. In so many
ways, she was a driving force behind efforts to make the Commonwealth
a leader in comprehensive, ecosystem-based ocean management. Most
recently, Susan played a central role in the work of the Massachusetts
Ocean Management Task Force in 2003-2004 and was integrally involved
in efforts to launch MOP. Her gift for articulating the need
for improving ocean management, especially at the science/management
interface, her pragmatic problem-solving approach and her bottomless
energy were of incalculable value. Losing Susan was a terrible
blow to the world of ocean management and an enormous personal
loss for those who had come to know her. MOP has great gratitude
for Susan’s contributions to this initiative; we will do
our best to honor her dedication through our continuing efforts
to advance integrated ocean management for Massachusetts’
coastal ocean waters.
